Third suspect arrested for the murder of Nathaniel Julies

The Independent Police Investigations Directorate (IPID) on Tuesday afternoon (September 1) arrested a third suspect to the murder of Nathaniel Julies, which took place less than a week ago in Eldorado Park, Gauteng.

According to Ipid, the suspect was arrested for violation of the ends of justice and possession of prohibited ammunition.

“The detective is also from the South African Police Department of Eldorado Park. is due to appear before the Protea district court on Thursday, September 3, 2020, ”said Ipid Ndileka Cola spokesperson

Two policemen from Eldorado Park, previously arrested made their first court appearance on Monday, August 31. Following their brief appearance, the case was postponed until September 10, 2020 because one of the suspects was unable to provide details of legal representation.

Gauteng NPA spokeswoman Phindi Mjonondwana said the two would remain in detention until their next court appearance.

NATHANIEL JULIES ALLEGED ARRESTED

Julies’ family allege that left the house to get food when a police van pulled up and turned on his siren. When Julius got “excited”, police reportedly shot him dead before taking him to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. Julius succumbed to his injuries later that evening.

Since the tragic shooting at Julies, the incident has not only gained international attention, but has sparked riots and protests across the region police brutality.

On Thursday August 27, just a day after Julies’ death, violent clashes between the community of Eldorado Park and the police broke out. As the community back at the police, officers responded with rubber bullets. Journalists also said they were threatened by police and said if they didn’t move away, they would be shot.

American singer and songwriter Solange Knowles also took to social media, citing the tragic loss of life. “Rest in peace, young Nathaniel Julius. Happy birthday lovely Toyin. We are still fighting for you Breonna. There is such a limit to these words, but we will never forget you. What is justice with all this loss and pain.

Said President Cyril Ramaphosa; “ thoughts and prayers are with the family and of Nathaniel Julius who, at 16, was denied a future and whose tragic death sparked anger and turmoil in a community that deserves better.
