The devaluation of a working day

I am a wedding photographer. A client hired me to take pictures of his daughter’s wedding. When I got there he had a nephew who also took pictures. Not much, I thought, a lot of weddings have amateurs besides the pro just to complement.

When I sent him an invoice, he paid… two-thirds. When I called him he explained to me.

Customer: You took 300 photos and edited 50, Danny took 150. I think that’s only fair.

Me: You can’t pay your nephew 1/3 of my money because he took pictures.

After a few digs, it turns out he wasn’t even paying the other guy; his real work devalued my work.
