Resigned Ondo SSG turns around, returns to Akeredolu camp

Political observers in Ondo State have taken aback by the decision of the former Secretary of the State Government, SSG, Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde to return to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s camp two after resigning from the governor’s cabinet.

Abegunde, popularly known Abena in political circles, had promised on July 6 to oppose the re-election of former boss in the state’s upcoming October 10 gubernatorial election.

Ontopnaija found that some political and community leaders in the state had facilitated the reconciliation between the ex-SSG and Akeredolu.

Abegunde had 2016 governor’s election was allegedly rigged for Akeredolu, an allegation he denied, but the governor had started to take legal action against him until the last political development.

After his resignation, Abegunde declared his support for of the gubernatorial candidates, Segun Abraham, who later resigned for Akeredolu.

Disappointed with the development, the ex-SSG then switched support for another aspiring governor, Olayide Adelami, who lost to Akeredolu in fifth after polling four votes.

Akeredolu had since replaced him with his Akure parent, Tayo Oluwatuyi SSG.

Sources said Abegunde on Sunday evening met Governor Akeredolu at Government House in Alagbaka, Akure.

Sources at the meeting suggested that Abegunde who had met with the governor alongside the former Special Tasks Commissioner the administration of Governor Olusegun , Femi Adekanmbi, well the governor’s son, Babajide, had settled his differences with the governor.

of the sources said: “Yes, Abena (Abegunde) was with the governor tonight. They settled their differences.

“From now on, he will work with other faithful of the APC to ensure the victory of the APC and Akeredolu in the next elections.”
