A heavy downpour washed away a bridge in Badungu village, in the Birnin Kudu Local Government area in Jigawa state, killing a 21-year-old man identified as Sani Dahiru.
Police spokesman SP Abdu Jinjiri confirmed the incident to DAILY POST in Dutse, the state capital.
He said the incident occurred on Monday evening following a heavy downpour which resulted in the collapse of the bridge connecting Badungu village and Cagun village in the local government area of Birnin kudu.
Jinjiri said that a Sani Dalha from Gwangwara village drowned and died trying to cross the bridge.
He noted that the deceased was handed over to his relatives and buried according to Islamic rites.
State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engineer Aminu Usman and members and his entourage also paid a condolence visit to the family of the deceased.
He noted that the Jigawa State government will work on the reconstruction of the bridge due to its economic impacts on the population of the region and the state in general.
