Ondo LG Election: thugs attack SDP candidates, injure others

 

Three days before the local government elections in Ondo State, the candidate for the presidency of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in the local government region of Idanre, Mr. Bankole Akinselure was attacked suspected political thugs.

Akinselure was attacked alongside his Mr. Idowu Akinrotohun along with seven other members of the group injured in the attack.

According to some party members, the attack was against them a meeting at the SDP secretariat in Agosile-Odode in the city of Idanre.

Recall that the Independent Electoral Commission of Ondo State, the ODIEC, had set for August 22 the election of the council in the state with no less than seven political already expressed interest in participating in the process.

The SDP member who longed for anonymity pointed out that the thugs, numbering around 26, stormed the secretariat with machetes and other dangerous weapons.

“These thugs came armed and attacked SDP members the meeting with cutlasses and axes, including stones.

“The thugs destroyed all the posters and billboards that were displayed at the secretariat. We had to quickly the police to intervene, but surprisingly for us they arrived late and started watching these thugs attack and destroy our properties.

Also, the candidate for the presidency of the party, Mr. Akinselure who confirmed the attack said: “It is that we were attacked and I called the DPO at the Olofin police station and the deputy commissioner of Olofin. police but it is a pity that the police who came to the scene of the attack could do nothing to stop the attack.

Meanwhile, the attack led to protests among SDP supporters who expressed their anger at the attitude of the police the violence.

Contacted, Mr. Tee Leo-Ikoro, spokesperson for Ondo State Police Command, said he had not yet been properly briefed.
