Man in remand for allegedly desecrating 10-year-old girl in Lagos

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday ordered that a 55-year-old man, Abdulrouf Akande, who allegedly defiled a 10-year-old girl, be remanded in custody at Kirikiri Correctional Center in Lagos pending ‘legal advice.

Police charged Akande, who resides at No.5 Agric Road, Egan Igando, Lagos, with filth.

Chief Magistrate Peter Nwaka, however, did not accept Akande’s plea.

Nwaka ordered the police to refer the case to the director of the Lagos prosecutor’s office.

Nwake adjourned the case until September 30, to be mentioned, NAN reports.

Previously, the prosecutor, ASP Benson Emuerhi, alleged that Akande committed the offense on May 15 at around 1 p.m. at his home.

Emuerhi said the accused lured the young girl to her room and soiled her, adding that the case was reported to Igando police station.

The offense, he said, “contravenes the provision of article 137 of the Lagos State Penal Code, 2015, which prescribes a sentence of life imprisonment upon conviction.”
