Popular Nigerian LGBTQ activist Pamela Adie has slammed and other celebrities for apologizing for their homophobic behavior or comments for selfish reasons.

Taking to Twitter to respond to the backlash that followed ’s apology to the community after her husband featured a queer magazine, she described the act shameful. Pamela said that members of the LGBTQ community are not toys that celebrities can use to benefit from projects that are good for their image.

She wrote: “There seems to be a tendency for people to ‘apologize’ for their homophobic behavior / comments just time to benefit from participating things or projects that are good for their image. It’s a shameful thing. So I understand how some may see ’s apology of those .

The truth is, we’ve had enough of homophobes who use closeness to community to advance their careers and relevance. We are not toys. Our feelings are real and our lives matter. It has to stop. I respect organizations that listen and act; like Quazar.
