The civil society situation room called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) step up the use of its results viewing portal ensure transparency in the upcoming elections for governors of Edo and Ondo states.

Mr. Clement Nwankwo, head of the Situation Room, a coalition of civil society organizations (CSOs), made the appeal at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, reports NAN.

“This is an important step forward for the transparency of elections in Nigeria which should be strengthened and rigorously enforced in the upcoming elections in Edo and Ondo states.

Nwankwo also urged INEC ensure strict adherence its guidelines for the conduct of the election and clearly define punitive measures for election stakeholders who flout the commission’s COVID-19 guidelines.

According to him, the group will deploy 300 election observers each to monitor the elections in Edo and Ondo.

He advised security agencies to be non-partisan before, and after the elections, to abide by the CENI code of conduct and the rules of engagement for security personnel on election missions.
