The Take Back Nigeria Project in collaboration with the Anambra State Councilors Association, the Dump Truck Drivers Association and other interest groups took to the streets of Anambra State on Wednesday to demand local government surveys.
The march was led by the convener, Recover Nigeria Project, Osita Obi, who gave the state governor, Willie Obiano, a five-month ultimatum to hold the elections or be prepared to face civil unrest.
Obi described the state government’s refusal to hold local government elections for eight years as a “criminal denial of the political rights of citizens.”
Obi said: “If elections are held in local government areas, it will create jobs, reduce insecurity and serve as a breeding ground for the training of politicians. The Nigerian Labor Congress and the Nigerian Local Employees Union in the state should oppose this perfidy. ”
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner for Information and Public Illustration, C-Don Adinuba, blamed the protest, which he said was politically motivated.
