Edo 2020: Not a Democrat, Angry Nigerians Tell Tinubu About Obaseki Attack

Nigerians have criticized the national leader of the Congress of All Progressives, Bola Tinubu, following his attack on Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki in a viral video.

Tinubu had asked voters in Edo on Tuesday to reject Governor Obaseki, who is seeking reelection in office.

Speaking in a video broadcast by TVC, Tinubu said that people should vote against Obaseki in Saturday’s election.

Obaseki is the candidate of the Popular Democratic Party in the September 19 elections.

Tinubu accused Obaseki of being a dictator in Edo, noting that the governor also lacked the rule of law and respect for the people of the state.

He said: “I want to ask you to reject Godwin Obaseki in the next election. I have suffered with many others to achieve this democratic regime that we are enjoying in the country today.

“So Godwin Obaseki did not participate in any aspect of the struggle to establish democracy in the country.

“Therefore, he could not understand the value and pains associated with this democratic struggle.

“He does not deserve any democratic ballot. Do not vote for him, I appeal to all of you.

“Obaseki demonstrated the act of the dictatorship, the lack of respect for the rule of law, the lack of respect for you, the people, who voted for those legislators who prevented taking the oath.”

Reacting on Wednesday, many Nigerians said Tinubu’s remarks about Obaseki were unjustified and should be condemned.

They explained that the national APC leader cannot tell people who to vote for during elections in the country.

One of them, Prince Zephaniah, described Tinubu as a non-Democrat for attacking Obaseki in the viral video, noting that people can no longer be fooled.

He said: “We saw the democratic struggle that made him a landowner in Lagos. The generation that was deceived in this country is dead. You can’t fool this generation again. ”

Akorede Oladipupo said that Tinubu needed to know that the Nigerian people were now wiser.

“I am not in favor of any political party because they are the same, but how could someone who calls himself a Democrat ask people to reject someone? So he is not a Democrat.

“But when he was in your group, then was he holy? You (Tinubu) are already rejected, Nigerians are waiting for you to declare your ambition, ”he said.
