President Muhammadu Buhari refers this Tuesday to the details of one of his meetings with the President of the United States, Donald Trump, in Washington.
The president revealed that Trump invited him to his office at the White House and said, “Why are you killing Christians in your country?”
In answering the question, Buhari emphasized that the killings of Christians in Nigeria are not related to ethnicity or religion.
In his words: “I think I was the only African among the presidents of the least developed countries that the president of the United States invited and when he was in his office, only me and himself, only God is a witness, he looked at me in face and said, ‘Why are you killing Christians?’
“I was wondering if it was you, I was wondering how you would react. I hope what I felt inside did not betray me to him. So I got it.
“The problem between stagnant ranchers and ranchers, I know it is greater than me, not to mention him, because I think I am a couple of years older than him, it was happening. And there was climate change and population growth.
“I tried to explain to him that it has nothing to do with ethnicity or religion. It’s a cultural thing that the respective leaders failed the nation. ‘
