Insecurity: Ogun PDP berates Abiodun government for delay in inaugurating Amotekun body
The Ogun State branch of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has been tough on Governor Dapo Abiodun for his refusal to inaugurate Amotekun’s body in the state.
The PDP said it was curious whether “Ogun is no longer a part of the Southwestern States because the state government, headed by Gov Abiodun, refused to inaugurate the state chapter of Amotekun. to tackle the growing security challenges in the state.
DAILY POST reports that Ogun was the first state to endorse the Amotekun Corps among other Southwestern states.
In February, Governor Dapo Abiodun forwarded the bill titled “HB No 35 / OG / 2020-” A Bill Establishing the Ogun State Security Network Agency and Corps of Amotekun to Help Maintain Law and Order in the State and Goals, ”at the State House of Assembly.
On March 3, just 19 days after the bill was sent to legislators, it was passed into law by the House of Assembly.
Since then, no more has been heard of Amotekun’s body in Ogun State.
Reacting in a statement made available to Ontopnaija on Monday, the PDP said it was very disturbed by what it called “the uninspiring attitude of the Abiodun government in the state to take advantage of the opportunities offered by Amotekun body widely accepted as a formidable security. initiative, as we have seen in other states. ”
Ogun’s PDP, according to its publicity secretary, Akinloye Bankole, said: “It is utterly ridiculous that while his counterparts from other states in the geopolitical areas of the Southwest are regularly marching to address security challenges in their respective states with the inauguration of the highly commendable Amotekun security agency, the Ogun state government continued to lead the government on social media – primarily Facebook and Twitter. ”
The statement reads in part:
“We are very much aware of the significant presence of Neighborhood Watch, a local security agency operating in Lagos State, we also know that recently Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo and even Osun States have just inaugurated Amotekun Boards of Directors in order to supplant the endless challenges of threats to life and property in their respective states, but sadly, the Ogun State government has cared less for the welfare of its citizens.
“As a responsible party, the PDP appears to be concerned about why Ogun State will choose a path so different from other neighboring states. Close examination of every part of the state reveals a lack of homeland security for residents.
“Almost daily, people are reduced to the bitter realities of threats from kidnappers, rapists, shepherds, cultists, etc. The recent case of an entire family whose life was cut short at its peak by alleged shepherds around the Ayetoro axis easily comes to mind. Cases of rapists and ritual killers are now on the daily menu around Ifo, Ijoko and Sagamu.
“For us as a party, it is contemptible that the ruling government in Ogun State is still in bed snoring while other states are consciously busy removing suspected criminal elements from their domains.
“The uncontrolled influx of dissidents through the old Ogere, Mowe / Ibafo tollgate, along the Ibadan Express lane and the recent intercepted trailer truck carrying several people hidden in the truck along the Sagamu / Ogijo road readily confirms it.
The PDP added that they founded it so tragically that despite the governor’s “deceptive position on fantasies of being in government, Ogun State, under the watchful eyes of Abiodun, who sworn to protect the life and property of the people, is constantly drifting towards the Hobbesian state of nature where life is brutal, unpleasant and short.
Without further ado, the Ogun PDP challenged the Abiodun government to “wake up from its slumber and start engaging all relevant security sector stakeholders to put in place specific initiatives. and strategic to secure the lives of the population, just as is done in other Southwestern states. ”
