No less than fourteen politicians died in a fatal traffic accident along the Gusau-Zaria road as some politicians rushed to join the state governor’s convoy.
The accident on Wednesday saw three vehicles collide with a BUA cement trailer.
It was gathered that fourteen of the politicians died on the spot, while several politicians were injured to varying degrees in the crash.
When contacted, the public relations officer of the State Police (PPRO), SP Mohammed Shehu, confirmed the incident, saying those who had been injured were taken to hospital and had received a processing fine.
However, Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle expressed his condolences to the families of all those who died who lost their lives in the crash.
The governor has ordered a three-day mourning in honor of deceased souls, saying all flags should be flown at half mast.
This was contained in a signed press system and made available to journalists in Gusau, the state capital by the Governor’s Special Advisor for Media and Public Lighting, Mr. Zailani Bappa.
The deceased has since received dignified burials attended by hundreds of people.
It can be recalled that some state politicians had gone to receive the governor at the border between the states of Zamfara and Katsina where the three vehicles collided with a BUA cement trailer along the Gusau-Zaria road.
