South Kaduna: SOKAPU Alleges New Murders, Arson Despite 24-Hour Curfew


Despite the 24-hour curfew, suspected Fulani militias reportedly invaded the village of Unguwan Gankon in Gora neighborhood, in the Zangon Kataf local government area, Kaduna state, killing people and burning 7 houses.

Recall that the Zangon Kataf local government area was on 24 hour curfew for about 63 days after the Zangon Kataf unrest when a farmer was reportedly killed in farmland.

Southern Kaduna Peoples Union, SOKAPU, National Public Relations Manager Luka Binniyat, said in a statement: “Yesterday August 18, 2020, when the rigidly punished 24-hour curfew is 63 days today, Fulani armed militias invaded the village of Unguwan Gankon Gora district, Zangon Kataf local government region and killed people and burned 7 houses. Neighbors, however, came to their aid and the murderers fled.

“The names of the victims are Kefas Malachy Bobai, a 30-year-old farmer and father of three, and Miss Takama Paul, 16, a student.

The statement explained that
Although armed troops arrived after the killers escaped, SOKAPU said he was grateful for the army’s response.

The statement noted: “The day before, on August 17, 2020, Mr. Bulus Joseph, 48, father of 9 children, was horribly murdered at his in Sabon Gida Idon along the Kaduna – Kachia road, in Kajuru LGA, by armed Fulani militias. He stood up to the killers so his wife and 3 children could escape, which they did. But he paid the price of his life because he was subhumanly slaughtered by the murderers in cold blood.

“On August 16, Pastor Adalchi Usman, 39 years old and father of 2 children, was assassinated. Pastor Usman, who was the pastor of the ECWA Unguwan Madaki Church, Maro Ward, Kajuru LGA in the southern part of Kaduna State, was ambushed while in a commercial vehicle on board with three others. The killers came from the bush and just started shooting the car.

The statement added that Mariah Na’Allah from Unguwan Madaki, Shekari from Unguwa Ali – from Anchuna village, Zangon Kataf LGA and Ezekiel Maikasa, from Gadanaji in Kajuru LGA,
the driver of the vehicle, Danlami Dariya, were abducted and at the time of the release of this statement, it was still not known where they were.

The statement added that on the same night of August 16, 2020, the village of Bugai near Banikanwa in the Kachia local government area was attacked by armed Fulani militiamen, pointing out that the village chief Dan’azumi Musa, 67-year-old was killed along with his siblings and elderly mother.

Six others, the statement said, suffered serious injuries.
