A 27-year-old woman, Saratu Ya’u, was arraigned Wednesday before a High Court in Kano, for the alleged murder of her 5-year-old son.
The accused, who resides in the village of Sabon Birni in the local government area of Gwarzo, faces a culpable homicide charge, reports NAN.
The prosecutor, Mr Lamido Sorondinki, told the court that the accused committed the offense on June 12, 2018 in Sabon Birni, Gwarzo.
Sorondinki alleged that on the same day, at around 8:25 a.m., the accused massacred his 5-year-old son with a sharp knife, resulting in his death.
The prosecution filed a petition in court with reference to section 280 (1, 2, 3 and 4) of the Criminal Justice Act 2019, requesting the court to send the defendant to a mental hospital for a medical evaluation.
According to the prosecution, the offense violates article 221 of the Criminal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded guilty to the prosecution.
The trial judge, Judge Ibrahim Karaye, ordered that the defendant be returned to a mental hospital for medical examinations.
Karaye adjourned the case until October 8 for a hearing.
