The Congress of All Progressives (APC) reacted to comments by the National President of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, against President Muhammadu Buhari.
Secondus attacked Buhari for saying he did not militarize the 2019 election like previous governments.
APC said the PDP deliberately denies the obvious that under Buhari, “free, fair and credible elections are the new normal”.
Yekini Nabena, APC’s deputy national advertising secretary, said in a statement Monday that rather than condemning, Secondus should mourn for his party.
He noted that the PDP has seen pillars break away from it, “as evidenced by the Party’s presidential campaigns in 2019 and the Bayelsa state government bribe scandal that indicted Secondus.”
“No wonder, the past few months have seen many PDP members resign from their membership due to Secondus activities which brought the PDP to its knees.”
Nabena stressed that voting power is quickly returning to the people and that the era of stolen and obtained votes is quickly fading.
He reiterated that Buhari’s statement that the APC could have used the military and other security services to invade opposition states, but chose not to do so; demonstrates the party’s proven democratic and progressive credentials. ”
“Why will the PDP under Secondus not support efforts to guarantee the independence of our state institutions such as the judiciary, INEC and our security services and ultimately deepen our democracy and improve our electoral system?
APC called on progressive supporters, especially the PDP, not to sidestep with the opposition party “which has become clearly disillusioned under Secondus”.
