The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare on the 11th, called on the political parties participating in the election of the governor of the State of Edo 2020 to conduct their campaigns peacefully.
The royal father called when he received a delegation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday during a courtesy visit to his palace in Benin.
The APC delegation, led by Yobe governor Mai Mala Buni, was in Benin for the party’s official campaign flag for its candidate for governor of Edo 2020, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
The Oba expressed sadness over recent events in the state, adding that the palace was not happy.
He called on everyone in the state to pray for a peaceful election in Edo.
Oba Ewuare also reiterated that he remained non-partisan and had never supported any political candidate.
“There is nothing more powerful than prayers.
“As you campaign, do it peacefully and without bitterness,” the monarch said.
“The palace remains non-partisan because of the rules established by our ancestors; we must be the fathers of all.
“We regard each candidate as our child and we pray for everyone. It is wiser to leave the fate of the election to God.
The monarch added that he was not against any candidate, “I have never been for or against any candidate, but when the people have chosen through the elections, we will pray that he succeeds in his office.”
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Governor Yobe and Chairman of the APC National Interim Committee said the visit aimed to introduce the candidate for the post of Edo 2020 APC to the Royal Majesty for his blessings. , reports NAN.
